Side
Side is located about 70 km east of
Antalya on a small peninsula in Manavgat district between
Alanya and Antalya. About 5 km from Side is located river
Manavgat, famous for its picturesque waterfalls. Side is one
of the most popular resorts of Turkey. It was founded about
3500 years ago and, thanks to its location, was a very
significant port city in the region of Pamphylia. In the
past Side was a small coastal village with historic
buildings and many small bazaars. The region today with
hotels and holiday facilities is an important tourist
centre.
Many buildings of ancient city have been preserved and
attract people from all world. The greatest tourist
attractions are the ancient theatre of Side and the Apollo
Temple. The theatre is well preserved and unlike most other
theatres, is not built on a hillside, but in open space.
Therefore from the upper seats you have a magnificent view
of both the sea and the remains of several ruins.
